Our History

How Our Practice Began

In 1996, Dr. Joseph Hsin started Cornerstone Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine with two Colorado locations: Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge and Avista Adventist Hospital in Louisville.

Pictured first is the original 1996 Cornerstone Orthopaedics logo, thoughtfully designed by founding physician Dr. Hsin. The second iteration, launched in 2018, retained a similar color palette and became the most recognized version among patients and providers over the years. The logo’s unique swirl held deep meaning: the black band symbolized the “C” in Cornerstone, the two brown and gold bands represented the “O” in Orthopaedics, and the silver band stood for a “silver lining”—a hopeful symbol for healing and recovery.

Today, the third evolution of the Cornerstone Orthopaedics logo reflects an exciting new chapter. Now part of Orthopedic Centers of Colorado (OCC), the updated logo integrates the Cornerstone name with the unified OCC brand, honoring the practice’s rich history while embracing its future as part of Colorado’s largest and most comprehensive orthopedic network.

Growth and Expansion

What began as a general orthopedic practice has grown into a comprehensive, patient-centered facility dedicated to providing personalized care at every stage—from initial evaluation and pre-surgical planning to advanced surgical treatment, post-operative recovery, and full rehabilitation. Over the years, Cornerstone Orthopaedics has expanded its services to include both physical therapy and occupational hand therapy, offering a true continuum of care conveniently available at our locations in Superior, Golden, and Westminster.

In the early 2020s, Cornerstone proudly joined Orthopedic Centers of Colorado (OCC)—the largest orthopedic network in the state—uniting with top specialists across the Front Range to deliver the highest standard of musculoskeletal care. This partnership has enhanced our ability to serve patients with even greater resources, collaborative expertise, and access to advanced services such as imaging, same-day appointments, and multidisciplinary care.

As of July 2025, Cornerstone Orthopaedics will become a fully integrated division of OCC, continuing its legacy of excellence while embracing the benefits of a unified brand and broader system of care. Through this transition, patients can expect the same trusted physicians, the same convenient locations, and the same commitment to compassionate, expert care—now strengthened by the full power of the OCC network.
